COAST SALISH TERRITORIES (VANCOUVER), May 2024: Indigenous communities in British Columbia are tapping into their strength and cultural wisdom to prepare for the season ahead. ITBC recommends all Indigenous tourism operators and communities develop an emergency plan and proactive measures to ensure the safety of their families, lands, and visitors in all emergencies, including wildfires. Planning ahead supports recovery.
“Prioritizing emergency preparedness assists Indigenous communities and Indigenous-owned businesses in building resilience, enabling everyone to handle disaster-related challenges and adapt effectively. By taking proactive steps, we improve our ability to recover from disruptions quickly, protect significant cultural areas, and ensure economic stability for everyone in the Indigenous communities,” shares Paula Amos, ITBC Chief Marketing & Development Officer.
