    Organizational Structure

Symbolized by the tree-rings, the new operating system is circular. Three Chief Officers will work collaboratively, with decisions made by consensus. These Chief Officers have equal authority, and report to and are direct employees of the House of Tyee (Board of Directors).

Each Chief Officer leads a Clan House (Department Pillar) consisting of employees who are called Family. All employees are considered Family, and all partners and Stakeholders are called Friends. In this renewed environment, corporate culture is foundational for the continued success of ITBC.

ITBC Corporate Structure

The three Chief Officers are:

  1. Chief Financial Officer: oversees all matters related to finance, contracting, human resources and operations, and ITBC subsidiaries.
  2. Chief Marketing and Development Officer: leads marketing, experience and product development, Indigenous relations, as well as travel trade partnerships.
  3. Chief Governance and Partnership Officer: works closely with the House of Tyee (Board of Directors) to guide governance and policy on matters related to governance within Indigenous tourism and is the primary contact for all Tillicums (partners) to ITBC.

New Collaborative Leadership Organization System Terminology

The Chinook jargon language is a reference for the ITBC operating model. Chinook, most actively used between 1830-1880, was created to facilitate relationship building, trade, and communication between diverse Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples. ITBC is not an expert on the Chinook language.

Family

A team member or staff of ITBC. Each belongs to one of the Clan Houses.

Clan House

An operating division (currently referred to as Department Pillars)

Tillicum

House of Tyee

The Board of Directors (Tyee is a Chinook jargon term meaning Chief or leader.)

Tyee Clan House Leader/Chief Officer

House of Tyee and Clan House Committees

Each of the Clan Houses works with a committee from the House of Tyee. These committees are standing permanent operating/working committees.
