Working with the Wider Tourism Industry

We recognize the vital role partnerships with the broader tourism industry play in elevating Indigenous tourism’s presence within the larger tourism landscape. By collaborating with non-Indigenous organizations and businesses, ITBC helps bridge gaps, eliminate barriers, and support sustainable growth for Indigenous tourism in British Columbia. These collaborations are essential for building a more inclusive tourism industry that benefits all stakeholders, from Indigenous communities to visitors worldwide.

The Friends of ITBC Program

This program strengthens partnerships between ITBC and the broader tourism industry, offering non-Indigenous organizations opportunities to support Indigenous tourism through financial or in-kind contributions. These collaborations provide vital resources to Indigenous businesses, enabling growth and breaking operational barriers. The program’s tiered structure—Salmon, Wolf, Bear, and Eagle—offers participants varying levels of engagement, including co-branding and cooperative marketing. Ultimately, the program enhances economic sovereignty for Indigenous communities and fosters collaborative efforts for Truth and Reconciliation while supporting sustainable tourism growth.

Collaboration with Native Education College (NEC)

ITBC partners with the Native Education College (NEC) to offer Indigenous tourism training programs. NEC provides a culturally supportive environment for Indigenous learners, helping them achieve their educational goals while respecting their cultural values. The impact of this collaboration is seen in the preparation of Indigenous graduates for meaningful roles within the tourism industry, fostering a more skilled workforce that reflects and promotes Indigenous culture.
